Prepare for your first session

Ten minutes is plenty. Think about a few of these questions, jot down anything that comes to mind, and bring it along. There are no wrong answers, and you can skip anything that does not fit.

Questions to think about

Pick the few that feel useful. Short, rough notes are perfect.

For career coaching or career clarity

  • What is on your mind right now, in a sentence?
  • What would make this conversation worthwhile for you?
  • What is going well in your work at the moment, and what is not?
  • When did you last feel properly energised at work?
  • What are you weighing up, or avoiding looking at?
  • What is non-negotiable for you (hours, money, location, family, values)?
  • What have you already tried, and what happened?
  • Who else is part of this decision?

For leadership coaching

  • Which situation on your desk is taking up the most headspace?
  • Which conversation are you putting off?
  • What is your team like: size, new or inherited, remote or together?
  • What would a good next 90 days look like for you?

What to bring

  • A quiet spot, a stable connection, and headphones if you have them
  • Paper or a notes app, for the next steps you choose
  • Your booking confirmation, which has the video link
  • Optional: anything you would like to look at together, such as a job ad, your LinkedIn profile, an org chart, or a draft message

What you can skip

  • A polished CV
  • A five-year plan
  • Having the answers, or having already decided
  • A neat story. Messy is fine
  • Anything confidential that belongs to your employer

Optional: AI-assisted notes

If you like thinking things through with an AI assistant first, that is a fair place to start. Here are two prompts you could try, then bring what you get as a starting point, not a verdict.

“Ask me ten questions about what I want from my work, one at a time. Then summarise what you heard in five bullet points.”

“I am weighing whether to stay, switch, or start over. List the options and what would need to be true for each to be a good choice.”

Leave out anything confidential and anything that identifies other people. A person can then help with what an AI cannot: hearing what is behind your answers, noticing what is left out, and following up with you afterwards. More on that in Why a person as well as AI.

The Intro chat is 25 minutes, at no cost, and a good place to start. Curious what happens in a session? See how it works.
